This
is another long term project. This car was used to develop the new twin
lined smooth door skins for our Mk4 Cosworth/WRC bodykit, and the new Cosworth
style bonnet.
When the car arrived it had been subjected to a not
very good attempt at fitting the kit. The first thing we did was rub
down the very poor paintwork, and try and repair the poor fitting - this
proved to be a mistake in hindsight.
We should have been braver and simply removed the
arches and skirts and started again, since it would have been much
quicker.
With most of the paint removed it was time to start
with some new primer. |
|
|
As you can see only the lower
half of the car was primed since the roof was pretty good. The primer
has been painted and allowed to cure prior to coating with a light black
aerosol ready for wet flatting to remove minor imperfections. |
|
|
Above you can see the flatted
and cleaned car re-masked and ready for painting. |
|
|
Above you can see the shell has been painted - just the
doors, bonnet, boot, rear spoiler, and front bumper to go!
The
car features a very fast RS Turbo engine courtesy of tuning demons SEVERN VALLEY
MOTORSPORT, where the car went straight after we had finished for even more tuning work.
This car has everything in the way of WRC
styling with the only panels that are original being the Roof, Glass, and that's
it really!!
|
|
The
car has been de-locked, has colour coded mirrors, and door handles, WRC Front
Bumper, Wide Front Wings, Sideskirts, and Rear Wings, WRC Style rear bumper, and
tailgate spoiler. The smooth door skins and bonnet help keep up the impression
of an Escort Cosworth which this might well have been. |
This
car was originally scheduled to have its RST unit replaced with a rear wheel
drive cosworth engine, but those plans have been shelved in favour of more RST
work, due to supplier problems.
The 16" OZ Racing wheels in white contrast perfectly with
the Rosso Red paintwork. Much has had to be trimmed from both front and rear
arches in order for the tyres to clear.

|
|
Although it
can not be seen very well from these photos which were taken in the rain, the
front bumper has our new optional black plastic mesh grill which replicates the
stainless mesh we already do and had featured in both Fast Ford, and Max Power.
This plastic option is very much cheaper, and black goes with
any colour.
