Suicide Doors open outwards and horizontal like a normal door but are hinged from the back unlike most modern doors which are hinged from the front. Suicide doors first got there name back in the 1930's because a combination of terrible chassis flex, and unreliable single acting catches means that they could come undone over bumps or whilst cornering. Without seatbelts it was very easy to fall out, and be killed. Today's cars have much better chassis and double acting safety catches - NEVER be tempted to use single acting catches on suicide doors. If they come open whilst you are going along, the wind will open the door violently and cause major damage to both the door, rear quarter and any pedestrians or other road users you are near. Double acting catches are only a few pounds more. The best thing to use is your own catches as removed from the back of the door during installation. Our bodyshop can fit suicide doors for you and the kit is pictured below. Visit the bodyshop if you want doors fitted or phone if you want a kit.
