Colour change paint requires a three stage process. First a coat of black is applied, followed by the colour change paint itself. This dries in around 20 minutes to a satin finish ready for the clear lacquer which weatherproofs the paint and provides the glossy finish.

Here you can see the whole car is raised on axle stands. This prevents dust from blowing off the floor when painting the lower sections and allows easy painting of the bottom of the side skirts.

Once the clear coats have cured properly the whole side of the car is once again flatted down - we are getting pretty familiar with the shape of this car now!

The graphic shape is then masked and painted blue before the whole side is cleared again.

This is actually very much more time consuming than it sounds. Firstly the car has to be masked in the conventional manner to ensure that the interior and glass don't get painted. 

Then the pattern has to be taped and masked. This has to be done in such a manner as to allow the graphic masking to be removed quickly and easily half way through the painting but without interfering with the main masking.

The bonnet is painted black as with most custom effects, and then the marble paint is applied. As with all paint this is then clear coated. Marble is actually one of the hardest effects to apply - if not done correctly, or not done using the correct products then the lacquer just peels straight off.

This was complicated slightly by the fact (as is so often the case) that we were not given enough time and the marble paint was actually applied at 2.00am - the car was trailered and arrived at Max Live for 8.00am!!
