With our unrivalled experience Turbocharging the MINI it was only a matter of time before we turbod the S. Many of the components used in our conversion are easily modified for the MINI Cooper S which with its lower compression and mega reliable internals can handle up to 22psi with no ill effects - and no gasket problems (provided you control the heat). The standard supercharger cannot generate this sort of boost and overheats the air terribly when getting over 15psi. Changing the Supercharger can be complicated since it runs the water pump, and many other issues crop up. Its also difficult to get this type of results, as the supercharger is an inherently inefficient device. The turbo conversion allows more boost and a huge power increase, and a pretty simple bolt-on installation. We have only added this because we are getting asked by so many customers if we can add a turbo to their MCS. With correct mapping, and intercooling the supercharged turbo (twin charged) should find 300bhp easily attainable (we have already seen the rather magical 326 bhp on the rolling road during testing), at lower cost than other routes to this sort of power. The second advantage after cost is the fact that the car should retain its road manners. Fully reversible. Also works on JCW and the new GP cars.
Because of the much larger power output this package uses a higher spec larger ball bearing turbo and an external wastegate. Minor exhaust fabrication is required to mate to most systems, and a 3 inch main exhaust is recommended. If you really want high power outputs then the only real alternative is to junk the supercharger and go with just a Turbo. The MCT 300 package retains the Supercharger for simplicity of installation, but could actually obtain very similar results without the supercharger. We can install the conversion and remove your supercharger at the same time if you wish, although it is normally retained.
*Power Figures. It is very difficult to quote actual power figures for your vehicle, as the actual output varies depending upon many factors, including the actual specification and condition of your engine, altitude, temperature, humidity, vehicle equipment levels, and numerous other factors. Those figures quoted are typical and are based upon our own experience of the kits listed above. They are not guaranteed on any particular vehicle. |
